Broken disco doll

Another photo shoot with the amazing Michael Blamey.  The brief was to look broken and create interesting, high fashion shapes with my body.  I am wearing a Rack and Ruin tshirt, my own DIY gold skirt and Tony Binaco platform boots.

Trends from Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 collections - Cherry to Berry

The WGSN conference I attended a couple of weeks back could not have been more on point.  The trends that were forecast are starting to pop up in High Street stores day after day.  Continuing on my list of key pieces to invest in now that will last you for a few years to come, the Cherry Berry trend is one of my personal favourites.

CHERRY BERRY
Similar to the white and grey trends, Cherry Berry is all about contrasting and mixing fabrics in rich and intense colours.  Bright cherry to deep berry tones graced the Marc by Marc Jacobs, Topman, Valentino, Just Cavalli, Antipodium, Burberry Prorsum, Richard James and Bread & Butter Autumn Winter runways this year as a newer and deeper version of the 2011 maroon trend.  Garments can be layered with different colour tones to create a unique and complete look.  Popular shades include rich wine reds, burgundy and claret.  A fresh take on the trend is to contrast shine and plush fabrics such as fur and patent.  This will be a key colour for knits so stock up now.

The best from Resort 2014

Cocoon-like shoulder shapes, midi length skirts, layered fabrics and textures, leather and white tones are still staying strong for the warmer months of 2014 as depicted by Acne, Chloe, DKNY, Givenchy, Gucci, Jason Wu, Michael Kors, Moschino, Phillip Lim and Versace.  These are my top picks:

Winter pieces to invest in now - Winter White

Continuing on from my previous post, the second key trend from the WGSN Trend Forecasting Seminar for Autumn Winter 2013/2014 is Winter White.

WINTER WHITE
We are seeing white everywhere.  It is a trend the High Street stores have picked up on quite quickly, however the average consumer still seems to live in fear of an all white ensemble.  As per my previous post on white shoes, white accessories are proving the easiest and fastest way to update your look.  WGSN have identified that this shade will dominate our Winter wardrobes for the next two years as fashionistas and their followers lean towards a head to toe white look.  The key with for white in Winter is to layer.  Similar to my grey post, white needs different tones and textures to break up the look.  Wools and knits are paramount to pulling off this look and they look really interesting when mixed with sporty separates and luxe outerwear.  Brands on the white band wagon include Nina Ricci, Topman, Mulberry, Maurizio Pecoraro and Thakoon.  Not to mention various fashion bloggers sporting the look head to toe out the front of said shows.

WGSN Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 Trend Report - Winter pieces to invest in now

Recently I was lucky enough to attend a WGSN trend forecasting seminar for work.  I thought the session was just going to cover eCommerce and industry marketing trends, however I was both surprised and delighted when the second half of the seminar was dedicated to trend forecasting for Winter 2014.  This jam packed session covered a number of key trends, leaving me with a detailed shopping list of all the items I should invest in now that will see me through to next year's Winter.  Over the next few weeks I will share a number of these trends to help you stock up on the seasons most fashionable multi-season pieces worth investing in.

50 SHADES OF GREY
As seen at the Autumn/Winter 2014 shows for Celine, John Varvatos, Aigner, LFW, Giambattistia Valli, DKNY and Lanvin the trend is to layer different tones of grey.  So basically it's grey on grey on grey, head to toe grey.  Break the look up by selecting different textures, from wool to jersey to leather to fur.  The look should start with a key piece such a coat.  From here add a knit sweater, tweed trousers, leather booties and fur bag all in different shades of grey.  The look also translates to menswear with accessories also moving away from traditional black and tan to incorporate the grey leather trend.
